Without early detection, an interceptor is useless: by the time guards spot the drone visually, there is nothing left to intercept in time — the target is already at the site. The early detection system gives the crew what matters most: time and coordinates. The chain “detection → target designation → launch” does the work: posts see the target at a distant line, AI filters out false targets, and the crew receives target designation to meet the threat in the air.
Early UAV Detection System — Target Designation in Seconds
Interception starts with detection
Until the target is seen, no countermeasure works at all.
Four steps from first sighting to launch
Automated observation, AI classification, operator alert, target designation to the crew.
Posts see the target
A cooled 360° thermal imager on an autonomous observation post picks up the aerial target and streams video to the command post.
AI classifies it
The AI server identifies the target class: copter, fixed-wing UAV, bird, or manned aircraft. Target false-alarm rate — ≤5%.
Operator gets an alert
The operator workstation receives an alert with the target class and designation data. From detection to decision — 25–30 seconds.
Crew aims and launches
Target designation goes to the crew: the pilot aims and launches the VOLKODAV 2 interceptor drone, which meets the target in the air.
What the system consists of
Observation posts along the perimeter, a command post with an AI server, and a link to the intercept crew.
Autonomous observation posts
Cooled 360° thermal imager, arctic-grade build, autonomous power. Collection and transmission of video only — no on-site processing.
Command post
An AI target classification server processes video from all posts. Operator workstation: alerts, target class, decision confirmation.
Integration
Target designation is delivered to the crew's ground control station. Works on top of the customer's existing video surveillance and EW — without replacing them.
Sold standalone and in a package
The same detection loop — two ways to deploy it at your site.
In the VOLKODAV 2 package
The early detection system is part of the VOLKODAV 2 interceptor drone delivery package: detection, target designation, and interception operate as a single defense loop for the site.
As a standalone loop
Deployed at the site as a self-contained early-warning system: detection, classification, alerts, and target designation — without the launch component. An interceptor can be added later.
Who needs an early detection system
Private security firms at critical sites
Refineries, fuel depots, power facilities, industrial sites — an aerial layer added to ground security.
Corporate security services
In-house security of large energy and industrial assets.
Departmental guard forces
Perimeter and grounds of extended facilities under continuous observation.
System integrators
An addition to the customer's existing protection and video surveillance systems.
UAV early detection system: questions and answers
At what range does the system detect UAVs?
The detection line is 10–12 km around the site. Autonomous observation posts with cooled 360° thermal imagers stream video to the command post, where an AI server classifies the target. The number and placement of posts are configured for the specific site and terrain.
Can the system tell a bird from a drone?
Yes. The AI server at the command post classifies each target into four classes: copter, fixed-wing UAV, bird, or manned aircraft. Time from detection to decision is 25–30 seconds, with a target false-alarm rate of 5% or less.
Does the system work at night and in winter?
Yes. The primary sensor is a cooled 360° thermal imager: it sees the thermal contrast of the target and does not depend on lighting. The posts are built to an arctic-grade standard with autonomous power, so they operate around the clock in any season.
Can the system be used without the interceptor drone?
Yes. The early detection system is sold separately and operates as a standalone early-warning loop: detection, classification, operator alert, and target designation. In the full VOLKODAV 2 package it is complemented by an interceptor drone for active neutralization of the target.
Does the system integrate with existing site security?
Yes. The system is deployed on top of the customer's existing video surveillance and electronic warfare equipment without replacing them. Target designation is delivered to the crew's ground control station, and operating procedures are aligned with the site's security service.
